The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, with no overnight hospital stay required.
The procedure begins with Dr. Schoenfeld making a very small incision within the lower lip, or along the crease immediately below the chin. From here, he will insert the chin implant and anchor it to the bone. Sutures are then placed along the incision for appropriate healing.

Few problems occur, but as it is an invasive procedure, there is always the rare chance for complications. These can include scaring, shifting of the implant, intraoral incisions, or permanent numbness of the chin and lower lip.

If sutures are present, they will be removed in six days. While mild discomfort may be experienced, Dr. Schoenfeld will prescribe appropriate pain medications to allow for a peaceful recovery. Over the first several days following surgery, patients should stick to a soft diet. Temporary numbness is not uncommon, along the chin and jawline, but this will slowly resolve on its own.
